NFPA 2112

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is an international nonprofit organization working to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education.

NFPA 2112 and its companion document for garment manufacturers, NFPA 2113, are the first Standards developed for industrial flash fire protective garments in the United States.

About NFPA 2112

NFPA 2112: Standard on Flame Resistant Garments for Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Flash Fire provides the minimum design, performance, certification requirements, and test methods for Flame Resistant garments for use in areas at risk from flash fires—such as those where flammable gases or vapors, or combustible dusts might be present. Note that clothing worn by emergency responders is not covered by NFPA 2112. All Armorex FR^® garments are UL^® Classified to meet the NFPA 2112 standard.

About Flash Fires

A flash fire occurs when concentrated fuels become mixed with enough oxygen to cause combustion, which results in a sudden, unexpected ignition. Flash fires usually last for a relatively short period of time—less than 3 seconds—but may cause severe burns to exposed skin. Industries prone to flash fires include oil and gas refineries, oil and gas extraction and pipeline services, gas utility services, petrochemical plants, mining operations, and metal or glass foundries.
